FNE at KVIFF 2019: Pigeon’s Milk Takes Top Prize at Industry Awards

    KARLOVY VARY: Film professionals gathered at the picturesque hillside Czech and Slovak industry party to fete the award winners of the Karlovy Vary IFF's Industry Days section, with a top prize of 100,000 EUR going to the Russian/Moldavan work in progress Pigeon’s Milk directed by Eugen Maryan.

    The Works in Progress Award, designed to bring the film to Prague for post-production, consists of a cash prize of 10,000 EUR from Barrandov Studio, 60,000 EUR in post-production services from UPP and 30,000 in services from Soundsquare, in effect making the film a Czech coproduction.

    Hugo Rosak, head of the Industry Days programme told FNE that some 1,100 people had industry accreditation this year. “Last year we had 1,300, which was a bit too much,” he said. A total of 33 projects were presented in four categories (feature films, documentaries and new cinematographic forms in development) during the three-day programme.

    The Docs in Progress Award went to the Iranian/Philippine film The Silhouettes directed by Afsaneh Salari, with a cash prize of 5,000 EUR.

    The KVIFF & MIDPOINT Development Award of 10,000 EUR went to the Hungarian project Some Birds. The Serbian project Rattlesnakes won the connecting cottbus Award for the team of director Nikola Ljuca and producer Maja Illic from Biberche productions. The Georgian production Grey Skies took the Rotterdam Lab Scholarship Award for writer/director Konstantine Kalandadze and producer Elena Margvelashvili from Parachute Films.     The Eurimages Lab Project Award with a prize valued at 50,000 EUR was awarded to the German/French/US/Finnish project Bottled Songs from director Chloe Gailbert-Laine.

    Three prizes were handed out by the Nespresso Talents CZ jury for vertically shot films from young Czech talents, with the top prize of 3,000 EUR going to We Are What We Eat by Nina Ovsová and Adela Križovenská,
