Japanese distributor backs Kedzierzawska film

By Katarzyna Grynienko
Tomorrow Will Be Better, Dorota Kedzierzawska's latest film, began shooting July 11 in north-east Poland, with financial support from Japan.

"The movie producer Polish Kid Film (www.kidfilm.pl) is co-operating with the Japanese distributor Pioniwa Film (www.pioniwa.com). The movie's total budget is 963,000 Euros, and for now we can't reveal the amount of input from our Japanese partner," Karolina Rozwod from Kid Film told FNE. Company founder Takashi Niwa previously distributed Kedzierzawska's 2005 film I Am.

In a press release, Kid Film stated that although Kedzierzawska's previous films received support from Polish public broadcaster PTV, they had so far not shown interest in the project and it is unlikely they will be a co-producer. The movie received 482,000 Euros in funding from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl).

Tomorrow Will Be Better is the fifth joint project of Kedzierzawska and cinematographer Artur Reinhart. Their previous films were presented and awarded at international film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Edinburgh, Karlovy Vary, Pusan and Munich. The film depicts the journey of three children trying to escape across borders.
