Swedish TV Series Based On Crime Bestsellers Shot in Romania

    BUCHAREST: Romanian company Seven Film has recently serviced Sweden’s Miso Film in the production of the crime series Box 21, based on the first bestseller from the series written by Anders Roslund and Börge Hellström. The project has been already approved for 35% cash rebate in Romania and is currently in postproduction, with the Nordic premiere on Viaplay set for 2020.

    The 6-episode series will receive up to 780,000 EUR / 3,727,168 RON as cash rebate, according to Romania’s National Commission for Strategy and Prognosis.

    The series, directed by Mani Maserrat, is produced by Miso Film’s Sandra Harms & Karl Fredrik Ulfung for Viaplay and NENT Group. The plot follows two young girls from Bucharest, who dream of a better life in Sweden but end up in sex slavery. Box 21 shows how the police solve the situations and how the victims in the story are not passive objects but powerful characters who take their fate in their own hands and try to change their situation.The script was written by Dennis Magnusson, Stefan Thunberg and Anders Roslund.

    The main characters are played by Leonard Terfelt, Mimosa Willamo, Simon J. Berger, as well as the Romanian actresses Ilinca Neacșu and Alexandra Sârbei. Other Romanian actors included in the cast are: Cristian Bota, Rodica Lazăr, Tache Florescu, Gabriel Spahiu, Ozana Oancea, Ana Radu, Sergiu Costache, Flavia Hojda, Sibylla Oarcea, Aura Călărașu and Vlad Bondoc.

    The series was shot in Bucharest for 46 days in April-July 2019 and in Stockholm for 14 days, according to Seven Film representatives.
