BRATISLAVA: Peter Bebjak’s The Rift / Trhlina has set a new record for a Slovak film opening in Slovakia, with 83,266 admissions and 494,386 EUR gross. The film was released by Continental Film on 24 January 2019.

The adaptation of the eponymous novel by successful Slovak writer Jozef Karika follows a group of four people who go on an expedition to the mysterious woods of the Tribeč mountains where, it is said, people have been disappearing for decades. The main actors are: Matej Marušin, Mária Havranová, Dávid Hartl and Tomáš Maštalír.

The film produced by D.N.A. Production and TV JOJ with the support of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, ranked 5th in the opening weekend charts behind the international blockbusters The Minions, Fifty Shades Freed and Avengers: Infinity War.

TV JOJ plans to air the film as a three-part mini-series after its theatrical run.

The previous record was held by another film by Peter Bebjak, The Line / Čiara, which was released in August 2017 with 69,242 admissions during its opening weekend (and 330,000 overall) and 375,959 EUR gross.
