TODD MCCARTHY AT CAMERIMAGE 2013!

The International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography has always appreciated the work of professional film critics, whose job was always to assist the audiences with their experience, erudition and knowledge of cinema.

For the viewers, they have become both partners in discussion and guides showing the way through the vast cinematic universes, full of hidden meanings and visual experimentation. Each year, Camerimage creates a space for exchanging views about various aspects of cinema, thus we consider it crucial to invite Polish and foreign members of this profession. We are pleased to inform that Todd McCarthy, one of the most revered American film critics, will be our guest during the 21st edition of Camerimage.

Todd McCarthy is well known for his stylistic panache, phenomenal knowledge and the ability to put each and every film in a wider context, historical or cultural. Also for his respect for cinema and filmmakers who use it to engage us in their worlds. For over 30 years he has been Variety's Chief Film Critic, and he has fought many battles in defense of great cinema. He is fascinated by the film process and film authors. He wrote biographical book about Howard Hawks, one of Hollywood's most daring mavericks, entitled Howard Hawks: The Grey Fox of Hollywood. He directed four film-themed documentaries. One of them, Visions of Light (1992), in which McCarthy interviewed many distinguished cinematographers, was shown at Camerimage. Currently he works as a Chief Film Critic for the prestigious The Hollywood Reporter.

Todd McCarthy will meet Camerimage participants and film critics, he will also sit on the Main Competition Jury, adding his incredible perspective on the world cinema to the table.
