17th Tallinn Black Nights announces full program, introduces Mexican “bronco cinema”

The Black Nights Film Festival, November 15 - December 1, 2013, announced the full program of its 17th edition.

According to Tiina Lokk, Festival Director, the Black Nights during its three weeks will present 255 full-length feature films from 70 countries. The festival program sets focus on the exotic Armenian cinema and the Arctic Inuit films from Canada. Some 50 films will be presented at the simultaneously running sub-festivals Just Film (Children’s and Youth FF), Animated Dreams (Animation FF) and Sleepwalkers (Students and Shorts FF). The program includes a record number of world and international premieres in the Black Night’s history as well as a selection of award winning films of recent international festivals.

The 17th Black Nights will open with the Canadian feature “Gabrielle” from Quebecois helmer Louise Archambault that also runs for the best foreign language film Oscar.

For the first time in the world, the Black Nights Film Festival presents a special program of MEXICO BRONCO that will introduce the new wave of Mexican cinema with violence as an artistic and storytelling vehicle. The program combines recent festival hits such as “Eli” with longstanding classics from Mexico’s rich cinema history.

The festival’s extensive “out of cinema” program includes a costume exhibition of Russian studio behemoth “Mosfilm” at Tallinn Portrait Gallery, a concert of film music by Nino Rota in Nokia concert hall, gourmet cinema dinner parties at the internationally acclaimed Seaplane Hangar Museum and much more.

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, November 15 – December 1, 2013, is one of the largest and most distinctive film events in the whole Northern Europe featuring three full blown competitions and sub-festivals, along with a fully fledged industry program and co-production market. Industry@Tallinn (Nov 25-29) is a set of film industry oriented events during Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival organised by both the Black Nights Film Festival and Baltic Event.
