JURY PRESIDENT FOR THE 33rd ISTANBUL FILM FESTIVAL GOLDEN TULIP NATIONAL COMPETITION ANNOUNCED

    DERVİŞ ZAİM WILL SERVE AS JURY PRESIDENT FOR THE GOLDEN TULIP NATIONAL COMPETITION 

    Derviş Zaim will serve as the jury president for the Golden Tulip National Competition in the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival, to take place 5-20 April organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), sponsored by Akbank for the tenth time this year.

    Cyprus-born Derviş Zaim graduated from Bogazici University (Istanbul) with an economics degree and then from Warwick University (UK) with an MA in cultural studies. His debut feature Somersault In A Coffin (1997) won him various national and international awards. This was followed by Elephants and Grass (2000), which achieved similar success both locally and internationally. Mud, his third feature made in 2003, won the UNESCO Award at the Venice Film Festival. Subsequently he made a trilogy based on traditional Turkish art forms: Waiting for Heaven (2006), Dot (2008), and Shadows and Faces (2011). Zaim won the Best Director award at the 27th International Istanbul Film Festival with Dot and the Special Jury Prize at the 32nd Istanbul Film Festival with The Cycle. He is also author of the 1992 award-winning novel, Ares in Wonderland. He is currently a lecturer at several universities where he teaches filmmaking.

    The National Competition Jury chaired by Derviş Zaim will award prizes in 9 categories: Best Film, Special Jury Award, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Director of Photography, Best Editing, and Best Music. Best Film selected by the National Competition Jury will be awarded with 150.000 TL, Best Director with 50.000 TL. The Special Jury Award supported with a monetary award for the first time in 2011 will be given again by Anadolu Efes. Director of the winner of the Special Jury Prizein memory of Onat Kutlar will receive 60,000 TL given by Anadolu Efes. The prizes for Best Actress and Best Actor will be 10.000 TL each. The jury will also award the Best Screenplay, Best Director of Photography, Best Editing and Best Original Music awards.
