Mikael Persbrandt and Malin Buska to star in Kõusaar’s new production “Nordic Instinct”

    Mikael Persbrandt will play the leading part in the new film by Estonian director Kadri Kõusaar “Nordic Instinct”. The lead actress is Malin Buska.

    The new feature by Kadri Kõusaar will be produced as a coproduction of Estonia, Sweden and Norway. Swedish actors Mikael Persbrandt and Malin Buska, both attending this year’s Black Nights Film Festival, will play the main roles. The film will be shot early 2015 in Norway and Estonia.

    The Scandinavian film-noir, based on the most translated novel “Lang” by the Finnish-Swedish writer Kjell Westö, tells a story of the relationship of a celebrated and charismatic TV anchor and writer with a femme fatale, half his age. “Her ex husband puts him into a situation where he has to decide what he is prepared to sacrifice in the name of love,” discloses the producer of the film, Aet Laigu.

    Kõusaar debuted in 2007 with “Magnus” that was selected in the official programme of Cannes. “The Arbiter” (2013) was in the official programme of Karlovy Vary festival. “Nordic Instinct” is the third feature by Kadri Kõusaar.

    Mikael Persbrandt’s international career kicked off with the foreign language Oscar winning film by Susanne Bier “In a Better World” (2010), the larger audience knows him best for the role of Beorn in the ‘Hobbit’ series.

    Malin Buska is a rising star of Swedish cinema. She has had lead roles in many Scandinavian art house films and plays the queen Kristina in Mika Kaurismäki’s latest film “The Girl King”. The production designer is Nina Bjerch-Andresen (The Headhunters). The cinematographer is Finnish Jean-Noël Mustonen like in “The Arbiter”. Original music will be composed by Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and Jan Bang.

    The film is a coproduction of Aet Laigu (Meteoriit Film OÜ), the Norwegian Hummelfilms AS and Swedish Zentropa Sweden International AB.
