Only a month remains to the start of the 31st Warsaw Film Festival. This year’s edition begins on the 9th of October and lasts for next ten days, until the 18th of October. In festival’s programme, like every year, there is a place for Polish films, films co-produced by Poland or created with a participation of Polish actors and filmmakers.
Below are the very first announcements of Polish films of this year’s edition of Warsaw Film Festival.
International Competition
Demon,dir. Marcin Wrona (Poland, Israel 2015), 94 min.
Piotr, nicknamed Python by his friends, arrives in Poland from England to marry beautiful Żaneta. He means to arrange his family seat in an old house, a wedding gift from his future father-in-law. Everything gets complicated when on the day before the wedding Piotr finds human remains buried near the property. A moment after this discovery, an accident happens.
Competition 1-2
Klezmer, dir. Piotr Chrzan, (Poland 2015), 97 min.
It is a summer day in 1943, a Polish village under Nazi German occupation. A group of young people looking for firewood finds a wounded Jew in the forest. Each of them has a different idea on resolving the situation. Every decision made or abandoned will have a serious impact on their lives…
New World, dir. Elżbieta Benkowska, Łukasz Ostalski, Michał Wawrzecki (Poland 2015), 90 min.
Three stories about fleeing from bad things and travelling towards a better world. We follow the lives of three young people from Belarus, Ukraine and Afghanistan for whom Poland has become the "new world" of the title.
Free Spirit Competition
Hel, dir. Katia Priwieziencew, Paweł Tarasiewicz, (Poland 2015), 81 min.
American scriptwriter Jack comes to HelPeninsula. When a brutal murder is committed, he becomes a suspect. The truth appears to be twisted as innocent fun turns into a dangerous game. A Polish thriller - unique for the Polish film industry, and an outstanding debut for the two young directors.
Documentary Competition
Bracia / Brothers, dir. Wojciech Staroń, (Poland 2015), 71 min.
Two brothers managed to escape from a Soviet forced labour camp but are unable to escape from each other. One of them is an artist and a dreamer, the other, a pragmatic scientist; chalk and cheese. All their lives they have relied on each other: in the Stalinist labour camp, in communist Russia, and after repatriation in capitalist Poland. Their eventful life brings constant adversity, but together they have always overcome it, despite their differences.
Short Films Competition
Thursday / Czwartek, dir. Bruno Brejt, (Polska 2015), 15 min.
Early morning. Police negotiator picks up the phone. It looks like another typical case. Just the beginning of another day...
The Dog Catcher / Hycel, dir. Daria Woszek, (Polska 2015), 30 min.
A black comedy telling a story of a man who kidnaps dogs for ransom, however, returns them in glory of a saviour. One day he kidnaps a German shepherd that turns out to be a stray dog.
The Tenants / Lokatorki, dir. Klara Kochańska, (Polska 2015), 30 min.
A single woman buys an apartment on a bailiffs auction. When she moves to her new home the keys don't match and she can't open the door.
