9:06 sweeps Slovenian film fest awards

    Igor Šterk's film 9:06 gathered the bulk of the awards handed out at the 12th Festival of Slovenian Films in Potoroz, including best film and best director.

    The expert jury of the 12th Festival of Slovenian Film, consisting of Aleksandra Balmazović, Janez Bricelj, Ana Lasić, Milan Ljubić and its president Branko Šömen, decided to give the awards to the following films, filmmakers or producers:

    1. the special acknowledgement goes to Špela Rozin for her role in the film Personal Baggage, which represents her return to the Slovenian film after a number of years;

    2. the special acknowledgement for a humorous insight into the Slovenian everyday life goes to Goran Vojnović for his direction of Chinese Are Coming;

    3. the special acknowledgement for direction goes to Olmo Omerzu for his direction of The Second Act;

    4. the special acknowledgement for best documentary goes to the film Alma M. Karlin: The Odyssey of a Lonely Woman, produced by Cebram. The makers of this film created an in‑depth and precise reconstruction of the life and times of the respected Slovenian publicist Alma M. Karlin.

    The Kodak Award for Best Photography goes to Simon Tanšek for the film 9:06.

    The Svet filma company Award for Best Student Film goes to the short film Cousin directed by Kaja Tokuhisa.

    The expert jury of the 12th Festival of Slovenian Film gave 17 Vesna Awards:

    The Vesna Award for Best Music goes to Jure Ferina and Pavao Miholjevič for the soundtrack for the film 9:06.

    The Vesna Award for Best Photography goes to the director of photography Simon Tanšek for the film 9:06.

    The Vesna Award for Best Sound goes to the sound designer Julij Zornik for the film 9:06.

    The Vesna Award for Best Makeup goes to Anja Godina for the film Personal Baggage

    The Vesna Award for Best Costumes Design goes to Marta Frelih for the film Alma M. Karlin: The Odyssey of a Lonely Woman.

    The Vesna Award for Best Production Design goes to Miha Knific for the film Cloud Chaser.

    The Vesna Award for Best Editing goes to Petar Marković for the film 9:06

    The Vesna Award for Special Achievements goes to the film E-Pigs directed by Petar Pašić and produced by PERFO.

    The Vesna Award for Best Male Supporting Role goes to Primož Pirnat for his roles in the films Slovenian Girl, Distortion and E - Pigs.

    The Vesna Award for Best Female Supporting Role goes to Silva Čušin for her role of Majda in the film 9:06.

    The Vesna Award for Best Animated Film goes to Thumbelina, directed by Boris Dolenc and produced by Forum Ljubljana. The filmmakers were successful in combining the elements of fiction film, realistic ambience and animation into a comprehensive fairy‑tale legacy of H. C. Andersen

    The Vesna Award for Best Male Leading Role goes to Igor Samobor for the role of Dušan in the film 9:06. Igor Samobor suggestively entered the first scene of the film and maintained his presence until the end.

    The Vesna Award for Best Female Leading Role goes to Polona Juh for her role of Sonja in the film Couples at Stake. The actress handles the double conflict elegantly, confidently and naturally.

    The Vesna Award for Best Script goes to Igor Šterk and Siniša Dragin for the film 9:06. With special attention to dramaturgy the authors weave a story about identity change.

    The Vesna Award For Best Direction goes to Igor Šterk for the film 9:06 for confident supervision of the actors and professional handling of film techniques.

    The Vesna Award for Best Short Film goes to Cloud Chaser directed by Miha Knific and produced by Studio Arkadena, which takes us to the edge of the human existence in a daring and genre‑specific way.

    The Vesna Award for Best Feature goes to 9:06, directed by Igor Šterk and produced by A. A. C. Productions, Gustav film and Mogador film. The film uses the language of film illusion originally, suggestively and in a contemporary manner.

    The critics and publicists jury award

    At the 12th Festival of Slovenian Film the jury of publicists and film critics, consisting of Zemira Alajbegović, Ingrid Kovač Brus and Patricija Maličev, mostly focused on the younger generation of directors.

    Best film: the medium‑length live‑action film Room 408 directed by Martin Turk and produced by TV Slovenia

    Jury explanation:

    Room 408 is a sensitive tale of decisions in the relations of two couples. Turk's narration is unpredictable... And at the same time inexorable.

    The jury also decided for a special mention:

    Special jury mention: live‑action animated short Cloud Chaser, directed by Miha Knific, produced by Studio Arkadena.

    The Stop Magazine Award for Best Actor or Actress of the Year

    The jury of the Stop magazine consisted of Pia Zemljič, theatre and film actress; Maruša Geymayer-Oblak, film and TV actress, translator and director; and its president Miha Brun, critic and publicist from the editorship of the Stop magazine. From 23 to 29 September this jury saw five features: Distortion, Couples at Stake, 9:06, Slovenian Girl and Personal Baggage. The decision was reached that the Stop Magazine Actor of the Year Award in the amount of 1000 euros shall go to:

    Igor Samobor for the best male role of Dušan in the film 9:06.
