Rising Bulgarian star director Kamen Kalev won one of two CEE spot in the Cannes 2011 Directors Fortnight, 12-22 May, with his Bulgarian/Swedish coproduction The Island. Hungarian producer Ferenc Pusztai of KMH Films also earned a slot as coproducer on the Irish/Hungarian/Dutch coproduction The Other Side of Sleep directed by Rebecca Daly.
French sales agent Le Pacte (www.le-pacte.com) purchased the world rights of The Island, a €1.5M budget Bulgarian-Swedish co-production, during the Berlin Market. The film stars France's Laetitia Casta and Denmark's Thure Lindhardt in the leading roles of a couple who visit a small island for a peaceful few days, but find their idyll respite challenged by an older couple living there.
Post-production on the film was completed in early April.
