PRAGUE: The Tom Cruise Hollywood action coproduction Mission Impossible 4 by director J.J. Abrams and production studio Paramount (www.paramount.com ) begins shooting in Prague on 4 October, Ludmila Claussová of Czech Film Comission (www.filmcomission.cz ) told FNE.
"The pre-production work is now taking place in Prague. According to my information, shooting itself begins on 4 October and will last about three weeks. Afterwards, the production will move to Dubai exteriors, using a some Czech film professionals there. However, most of Mission Impossible 4 will be produced at the film studios in Vancouver, Canada," Claussová told FNE.
Czech production company Stillking Films (www.stillking.com ), which coproduces Mission Impossible 4, declined to comment any details on the upcoming project. „It is standard that the local coproducer is not allowed to provide any comments on an international film production," Claussová said. It was announced that Czech co-producer Stillking Films is setting up the local shoot with producers J.J. Abrams, Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner.
The Czech Republic's new Film Industry Support Programme, approved by European Comission in June, is paying off. Mission: Impossible 4 should spent around CZK 176 million (7.4 million euros) in Prague and will get CZK 57.6m (€2.3 million) back. The new installment returns to Prague, where Cruise and director Brian De Palma kicked off the franchise with 1996's Mission: Impossible. The budget of Mission Impossible 3 in 2006 was almost $150 million. That film made over $400 million in worldwide ticket sales. The budget of MI4 has not been announced.
The Czech incentives programme, which offers producers rebates of up to 20% of eligible local spend, has attracted interest from scores of productions. Sixteen projects have already been approved to receive a combined total of nearly CZK 224 million ($11.7 million) in grants, the Czech Film Comission said.
