TBILISI: Mariam Khatchvani is in production with her debut feature, Dede. The first part of shooting took place in autumn 2015 and winter shooting is set for January 2016. The film is a Georgian/British/Croatian coproduction.
The script written by Khatchvani and Vladimer Katcharava together with Irakli Solomanashvili follows a young woman, Dina, who lives in the harsh mountain region of Svaneti. Her happiness is brief because her lover dies and she must obey tradition by marrying the first man who offers her his hand.
The main characters are played by George Babluani and Natia Vibliani. Konstantin Mindia Esadze (The President, 20 Steps Production) is the DoP.
Katcharava is producing through 20 Steps Production in coproduction with Mike Downey through Film&Music Entertainment and Igor Nola through MP Film Production.
The budget is 502,000 EUR of which 50,000 EUR are still to be secured, Katcharava told FNE. The Georgian National Film Centre, the Doha Film Institute and the Sundance Film Festival are supporting.
The project is in the Works-in-Progress selection at Festival de Cinéma Européen des Arcs on 14 December 2015 and is expected to be finished by 1 May, Katcharava told FNE.
