Lithuanian Film in Cannes: Presentation of the newly established film centre

    The national Lithuanian Films stand begins its work at the film market The Marché du Film at the 65th Cannes International Film Festival. Throughout 10 days of the film market the Lithuanian Films stand will introduce to the film industry not only the newest Lithuanian feature, documentary, short and animated films but also the freshest news from the country's film industry, the main of which is that Lithuania has established a film centre.

    Assessing Lithuania‘s participation in this highly important film event, Lithuania‘s Ministry of Culture Arūnas Gelūnas has noted that: „The participation in the most important film event of the world is an extraordinary opportunity for both our country and its film industry. Although the national Films Stand is being presented in Cannes only for the second time, this year we already have exceptional news - we have established a Lithuanian film centre. We would love to share the news with our partners abroad. Lithuanian films wish to and must appear on the global film map. "

    Vilnius city mayor Artūras Zuokas said: "I am very glad that a newly established Vilnius Film Office, that assists the international film-makers in discovering Vilnius, is participating in this film event for the first time. We aim to become leaders in the region to attract investment in film industry, and therefore we will continue to focusing on films as one of the possible investment areas. We have all the necessary resources for shooting films here, from professional experts to the unique and different locations."

    The main aim of the Lithuanian film centre will be to encourage and promote a long - term development and competitiveness of Lithuanian films and to participate in shaping the policy of Lithuanian films. The main functions of the Lithuanian films centre will not be limited to the administration of film funding but will also include liaising with the other European film centres, encouraging the attraction of film investment, promoting new technologies in film distribution and exhibition process, organizing seminars and training sessions, representing Lithuania on an international level.

    It will be possible to see the previews of all the Lithuanian films created throughout the year in the specially built - in screens of the modern Lithuanian Films stand. Furthermore, work spaces have been installed at the stand where Lithuanian film industry professionals will arrange meetings with their foreign partners. The film representatives of the country will also host a traditional party on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea to which foreign film production professionals, producers, representatives of the international film festivals are invited.

    The screenings of two Lithuanian films: „Vanishing Waves" by Kristina Buožytė (20th and 22nd of May) and „Narcissus"by Dovilė Gasiūnaitė (23rd of May) will also take place at the film market of Cannes.
