Forty years after a breath-takingly dramatic attempt to defect from the Soviet Union to the USA, renowned Lithuanian asylum seeker Simas Kudirka returns home on a journey that explores what happens to one’s dream of freedom when it becomes an immigrant’s reality.
Giedrė Žickytė (b.1980) is a Lithuanian director and producer. Her films have been presented at many international film festivals including IDFA, Dok Leipzig, Hot Docs, Visions du Reel, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Rotterdam IFF, Goteborg IFF and others, winning awards and receiving national theatrical releases. Her latest short documentary I’m Not from Here (co-directed with Maite Alberdi) was nominated for the European Film Academy Awards in 2016 and her feature documentary Master and Tatyana was awarded for Best Director, Best Documentary, Best Camera and Best Editing at the Lithuanian National Film Awards “Silver Crane” in 2015.
The Jump is a coproduction between Lithuania, France, Latvia and USA. It is produced by Moonmakers and coproduced by VFS films (Latvia) through producer Uldis Cekulis, Faites un Voeu (France) through producer Catherine Siméon and Naked Edge Films (USA) through executive producer Daniel J. Chalfen.
The documentary is supported by the Lithuanian Film Centre, Creative Europe Development Grant, Creative Europe TV distribution Grant, Latvian Film Centre, Lithuanian National Television, YLE, US Embassy Vilnius and France’s regional fund.
The theatrical release is planned for 2018.
