VALLETTA: After shooting in Malta for The Count of Monte Cristo in 2002, director Kevin Reynolds returns with Clavius, an epic thriller starring Joseph Fiennes and Tom Felton with the shooting set in Malta in a few months, according to the Malta Film Commission.
The local company Small Island Films is providing services.
Clavius follows a Roman centurion (Joseph Fiennes) charged by Pontius Pilate to investigate rumours of a risen Messiah 50 days after His crucifixion and to locate the missing body of Jesus of Nazareth in order to master an uprising in Jerusalem.
Paul Aiello wrote the script. The cast includes Mish Boyko and Stewart Scudamore. Lorenzo Senatore is the DoP. Shooting is also taking place in Spain. The film is produced by the American independent company LD Entertainment with the premiere expected for Easter 2015.
Minister Manuel Mallia, who is responsible for the film industry, said in the press release issued by Malta Film Commission that the government remained committed to build a sustainable film industry in order to create more job opportunities and generate economic activity. Film Commissioner Engelbert Grech attributed this high level of activity to a new strategy, with an upgraded set of financial incentives and focused marketing campaigns targeting major markets.
