FNE at Krakow FF 2013: Krakow Prize winners

    KRAKOW: The 53 Edition of the Krakow Film Festival held from 26 May to 2 June 2013 screened over 250 films and boasted a wealth of competitions with films competing for prizes in the categories of international music documentary, international documentary, international short film and national film competitions. 

    This year the festival hosted about 600 directors, festival programmers and other film professionals as guests.

    Top prize for best music doc, the Golden Heynal went to Jay Bulger the director of Beware Mr Baker (USA) for his film about the 60s rock music drummer Ginger Baker. In the International Documentary competition the top prize the, Golden Horn, for director of the best film went to Tora Mårtens, the director of Colombianos, (Sweden, Finland) a documentary about a family coping with the problems of drug and alcohol addiction.

    Russian director Sergei Loznitsz took the Golden Dragon, the top prize in the International Short Film Competition, for his film Letter which the jury called a “unique cinematographic way of contemplating life.”

    In the Polish National Competition the top award, the Golden Hobby-Horse went to director Filip Dzierzawski for his film Love about the generation born and maturing in a free Poland.

    In the Dragon Forum, the Dragon of Dragons, went to Netherlands director and animator Paul Driessen who was honoured for his life-time achievements. Driessen was nominated for the Oscar in 2000 for his short film 3 Misses.  HBO Development Award Film of the Dragon Forum went to the project LOVE XXXXL  directed by Joanna Frydrych (Poland).

    The 8th edition of the Dragon Forum was held in Krakow as part of a year long training and pitching programme for documentary filmmakers.

    This year’s Krakow Film Market, the biggest film market for documentary and short film in Central East Europe, gave buyers and film professionals a chance to see about 300 newest titles from all over the world, selected from among 1500 films, documentaries, short films and animations that were entered.
