WARSAW: Polish public broadcaster (TVP) is currently in production with Crown of Kings, a major costume TV series directed by Wojciech Pacyna about the life of Casimir III the Great. The show is a local attempt to tap into the costume drama soap opera genre which became very popular in Poland thanks to the Turkish production The Magnificent Century: Kösem, a big hit for TVP in 2016.
"Polish viewers have fallen in love with Turkish series and now it's time for them to fall in love with a Polish production. Crown of Kings will be the first such major series in the history of TVP in 20 years, and it will showcase the beauty of Polish history", Jacek Kurski, the President of TVP, said in an official statement.
Crown of Kings follows the rule of Casimir III the Great, the last member of the Piast Dynasty, who reigned in Poland from 1333 to 1370. TVP is executive producing. The final budget has not yet been announced.
The script is overseen by Ilona Łepkowska, an experienced Polish TV screenwriter responsible for TVP's hit series such as L for Love and Colors of Happiness. The cast includes: Halina Łabonarska, Marta Bryła, Paulina Lasota, Piotr Gawron-Jedlikowski, Marcin Rogacewicz and Wojciech Żołądkowicz.
Shooting launched on 13 July 2017 and the premiere is planned for November 2017.
