GDYNIA: Janusz Kondartiuk will showcase his new drama A Cat with a Dog at in the main competition of the 43rd Gdynia Film Festival, running from 17 to 22 September 2018. The film will open in Polish cinemas on 19 October 2018 distributed by Akson Distribution.
A Cat with a Dog is inspired by true events and the director's relationship with his brother, who died fighting a fatal disease. Janusz Kondratiuk and Dominik W. Rettinger penned the script and the cast includes Robert Więckiewicz in the lead role, accompanied by Aleksandra Konieczna, Olgierd Łukaszewicz, Bożena Stachura.
"Two years ago, during the Gdynia Film Festival, I saw several films about illness and death. My own experience with my brother’s illness made me see that cinema was lacking something, it was very sweet and naive. Being with a sick person is very difficult. Their psyche is not ruled by any logical reasoning. They go to extremes and one needs a lot of patience and understanding, or at least to try. It is for sure not as pretty as it is shown in most films", Janusz Kondratiuk told FNE.
The film was produced in 2018 by Michał Kwieciński and his company Akson Studio in coproduction with TVP, Studio Produkcyjne Orka and the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute (FINA).
