Local Films Conquer Polish Audiences

    Polish films claimed 30% of cinema attendance in Poland in 2011.

    The annual report of the European Audiovisual Observatory (www.obs.coe) places Poland among the leading European countries in box office power of domestic films. The Czech Republic, which had been the leader among CEE territories, trailed Poland with domestic films drawing 29% of attendance.

    Turkish films continued their local popularity, with a national market share of 50.2%. Admissions overall increased in Turkey by 3%, to 42.3 million. In the EU, admissions were stagnant, dropping by 0.4%.

    In the EU, only France, Italy, and the U.K. outperformed Poland.
