WARSAW: The Cannes Film Festival announced its official selection in Paris yesterday with films from Central and Eastern Europe scoring slots only in the Short Film and Cinefondation sections after most top talent from the region was already nabbed by the Berlinnale earlier this year.

Jane Campion will head the Cinefondation and Short Film jury where Polish filmmaker Elzbieta Benkowska’s 14 minute short film Olena will screen in the Short Film lineup.  In the Cinefondation competition films from Romania, Poland and two films from the Czech Republic were selected.

The CEE industry is now pinning its hopes for a feature film slot on the Directors’ Fortnight which will announce its lineup on 23 April and Critics Week which announces its selection on 22 April.
