DISCOP opens to brisk business

    The Central European TV market, DISCOP East, kicked into high gear even before the June 18 opening day in Budapest. Reports include sales across the region, in a wide range of product from documentaries to DVD rights, and from telenovelas to licensing rights.

    World Screen reported that Brazilian distributer Globo TV was expanding sales in the region, adding nature documentaries and three new telenovelas to its line-up. C21 Media quoted US distributor AETN International taking in sales of documentaries, including Polish pubcaster TVP's purchase of has acquired Biography: Barack Obama. Child Warriors. and Crude, while Czech TV acquired a package of factual titles, including Dogfights, Battle 360, and Life After People.

    According to Variety, Endomol announced content deals with Bulgarian channels Nova Television Plus and TV2, MTV Poland, Ukraine's QTV and Hungary's Channel Cool. C21 Media reported strong sales for All3Media Intl. Poland's Studio Printel acquired DVD rights to Secrets of the First Emperor the company's first major Chinese co-production. In addition, the Specktrum Channel, which broadcasts into Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, bought the documentaries The Great Wall of China and Secrets of the Forbidden City from All3Media Intl.
