PRODUCTION: Corneliu Porumboiu is Developing A Nine-Minute Interval

By Iulia Blaga

{mosimage}BUCHAREST: Two years after Police, Adjective/Poliţist, adjectiv won Un Certain Regard Jury Prize and FIPRESCI Prize in Cannes, Corneliu Porumboiu is writing the script of a new feature A Nine-Minute Interval. He has completed the first draft and is working on the second one. A Nine-Minute Interval/Un interval de nouă minute will focus on Paul, a young film director whose project was blocked for a few years because it wasn't financed. In the meantime, he wrote and re-wrote the script. One day, Magda, his producer, tells him that she found some money but, since she didn't find all the funds, she proposes that he shoot on digital.

The film is produced by Marcela Ursu and 42km Film (www.42kmfilm.ro), who are looking for co-producers. Half of the budget of 600,000 Euro is already in place with a production grant of 250,000 Euro that the project won at the latest CNC (www.cncinema.abt.ro) contest and with personal funds, Ursu told FNE. The project has already applied for a MEDIA development grant, with the results known after April 2012.

Porumboiu plans to use Marius Panduru as DOP, as he did for his previous films 12:08 East of Bucharest/A fost sau n-a fost? and Police, Adjective/Poliţist, adjectiv, but he hasn't started the casting yet. He plans to start shooting in Bucharest at the end of spring 2012. Discussions with sales agents are in progress and will soon lead to negotiations. Ursu said that they plan to finish the film in autumn 2012, with the premiere at an A festival.
