Romanian film lures audiences with unique promo campaign Of Snails and Men, Director Tudor Giurgiu

BUCHAREST: Romanian producer/director Tudor Giurgiu is trying to lure Romanian audiences back to local films with a unique new promotional campaign for his second film, Of Snails and Men. Unprecedented for a Romanian film, Giurgiu has invested 100,000 EUR and is preparing to open on 39 screens in 22 towns on 14 September 2012.

The campaign featured a parade of cars from the automobile factory where the film is set. The campaign’s non-traditional promotional techniques include sign posts in the shape of a can, and a viral campaign that started with a flash mob.

Of Snails and Men/Despre oameni şi melci (www.despreoamenisimelci.ro) is a comedy based on an inaccurate news report that workers from the factory were willing to send their sperm in order to rescue their bankrupt factory.

Giurgiu is producing through Libra Film (www.librafilm.net) in coproduction with Patrick Sobelman and the French Agat Films &Cie. Elle Driver is handling the international sales. In Romania the film is distributed by Transilvania Film (www.transilvaniafilm.ro), Giurgiu’s own art house distribution company, in collaboration with local distributor, Ro Image 2000 (reimage.ro).

The film stars Romanian actors Andi Vasluianu, Monica Bîrlădeanu and Dorel Vişan and French actors Jean-François Stevenin and Robinson Stevenin.
