Of Snails and Men sets admissions record in Romania

By

BUCHAREST: Of Snails and Men / Despre oameni şi melci (www.despreoamenisimelci.ro), the second film from Tudor Giurgiu, netted 13,929 admissions in its opening weekend, setting a ten-year record for a Romanian film.

The film, which opened on 14 September 2012, surpassed Cristian Mungiu's 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (10,851 admissions in its first weekend in 2007) and Florin Şerban's If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle (7,013 admissions in its first weekend in 2009).

Of Snails and Men has sold 19,612 tickets to date, including the preview screenings, according to Transilvania Film (www.transilvaniafilm.ro), which is distributing the film together with Ro Image 2000 (www.roimage.ro).

The comedy opened on approximately 40 screens in 19 towns. The screening strategy is unconventional, involving three mobile teams travelling to towns with no cinemas but that have theatres and cultural centres - a method used successfully by Mungiu in 2007.

Of Snails and Men was produced by Giurgiu through Libra Film (www.librafilm.net) in coproduction with Patrick Sobelman and the French company Agat Films & Cie. Elle Driver (www.elledriver.fr) is handling international sales.
