Romania Develops VOD Platforms

By

BUCHAREST: Platforms for video-on-demand are developing in terms of application but the offer of new Romanian titles is still scarce.

The newest video-on-demand platform in Romania, WWTV offers almost 200 movies and dozens of TV channels available on computer and iOS (iTunes). Soon it will also be available on Android and Smart TV. The platform is pay-per-view, but with 3.13 EUR/14 RON viewers can purchase the Super Pack allowing them to see 50 films. For the moment TV channels can be watched free of charge as a bonus for viewers.

Another VOD platform, Seenow is available in App Store, Google Play, Smart Hub, Windows 8 store and Android, offering subscriptions for TV channels, FilmBox Live, Avantaj (Romanian films, Disney movies, documentaries, Bollywood films etc) and Satin (+18 years old). One subscription costs 2 EUR.

One of the oldest VOD platforms in Romania is Voyo which as a part of CME sells TV shows from the Romanian channels controlled by CME as well as movies. AntenaPlay is the VOD platform of Intact Media Group providing its TV channels.

Last year Romanian Film Promotion opened a VOD section with Romanian films on its website, but there are still only a few titles. WebKino was the first VOD platform offering exclusively Romanian films made by the new generation of filmmakers. It has failed to update its list with domestic titles, but it has signed a partnership with One World Romania Film Festival providing films presented in the last five editions of the festival.
