BUCHAREST: Constantin Popescu's new feature, the family drama Pororoca, has been picked up by Wide Management and will be screened in the 2017 Cannes' Marché du Film. The film is a Romanian/French coproduction.
Proroca, which tells the story of a couple who lose their daughter in a park, was written especially for the actor Bogdan Dumitrache, who previously starred in Călin Peter Netzer's 2013 Golden Bear winner Child's Pose (Parada Film). Iulia Lumânare is co-starring. The cast includes Adela Mărghidan, Ștefan Răuș, Costin Dogioiu and Mircea Gheorghiu.
The film was lensed and also produced by Liviu Mărghidan through Scharf Film & Advertising in coproduction with Lissandra Haulica through France’s Irreverence Films. The project won a production grant of approximately 214,000 EUR / 950,000 RON from the Romanian Film Centre at the beginning of March 2015 and was shot in August-September 2016. The film was also supported by Eurimages and the French CNC’s Aide aux Cinémas du Monde.
The Romanian premiere is set for 2107, but the Romanian distributor is not yet known.
Constantin Popescu's and Liviu Mărghidan's previous credits include Portrait of the Fighter as a Young Man directed by Popescu, produced by Filmex Film and selected for the 2010 Berlinale’s Forum.
