BUCHAREST: Daniel Sandu’s debut feature One Step Behind the Seraphim won eight awards at the12th Gopo awards including best film, best director and best debut feature.

One Step Behind the Seraphim had 15 nods, followed by 6.9 on the Richter Scale by Nae Caranfil and The Anniversary by Dan Chișu (produced by DaKino Productions) with eight nods, and Ana, mon amour by Călin Peter Netzer, Breaking News by Iulia Rugină (produced by Libra Film) and Fixeur by Adrian Sitaru with seven nods each.

A jury of professionals decided the nominations from among 23 feature films released in 2017. The voting process of the approximately 500 professionals was supervised by PwC Romania.

In her speech Ada Solomon, the producer of One Step Behind the Seraphim, urged the authorities to better support the Romanian cinema. She reminded them that Bucharest lacks an art house cinema for domestic premieres and film professionals need better social protection.
