The Childhood of Icarus, the first feature of the Romanian-Swiss filmmaker Alexandru Iordăchescu, has been sold in France to Zootrope (www.zootropefilms.fr) and in Romania to Independenta Film (www.independenta.biz).
The film will screen from August 27 in the First Films World Competition at Montréal World Film Festival.
The film is due to hit cinemas in early spring 2010, in order to play festivals prior to theatrical release, the director told FNE. Negotiations with a Swiss distributor are underway.
The producers recently signed with a sales agent, EastWest Filmdistribution GmbH (www.eastwest-distribution.com).
The Childhood of Icarus is a Romanian-French-Swiss co-production between Elefant Films, Elefant Film, and Freshline Productions (www.freshline-production.com), the first two owned by the Alexandru Iordăchescu together with producer-director Ruxandra Zenide. The film is produced by Ruxandra Zenide, Dan Burlac and Alexandru Iordăchescu. Christophe Servell is co-producing.
Written by Alexandru Iordăchescu, Marianne Brun and Marcel Beaulieu, The Childhood of Icarus is a fantasy drama involving gene therapy and regaining the youth. Lead actor Guillaume Depardieu died a few days after the shooting ended in Romania last year. This is his last film.
The cast also includes Alysson Paradis, Carlo Brandt and Dorotheea Petre. The DOP is Marius Panduru.
