Srdan Golubović‘s Circles wins the Grand Prix of CinEast festival Luxembourg

The jury presided by the Luxembourgish producer and director Donato Rotunno also awarded the Special Prize of the Jury to the film Heavenly Shift by Márk Bodzsár.

The Audience Award goes also to the film Circles by Srdan Golubović. The awards of the 6th edition of CinEast (Central and Eastern European Film Festival Luxembourg, 9-27 October 2013, www.cineast.lu) were announced at the Awards Ceremony held on Friday 25 October at the Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg.

The Grand Prix CinEast 2013 was awarded to Circles directed by the Serbian director Srdan Golubović. Donato Rotunno commented the verdict of the jury as follows: “We decided to give the main award of CinEast 2013 to a very human story. This is a touching cinematographic fresco of the post-war society. It addresses important moral issues but without lecturing. We were very convinced by the clever and surprising structure of this film and its impressive acting.

The Jury also awarded the Special Prize of the Jury to Heavenly Shift by the Hungarian director Márk Bodzsár: “It goes to a black comedy. A gripping, entertaining and humorous story. A literally heart-breaking and crazy ride through life and death. We wanted to encourage a director who showed a genuine love for film-making.”

The Audience Award based on the votes of the festival-goers went also to Circles by Srdan Golubović.

Moreover, Audience Awards for Best Short Films in the three categories (fiction, animated, documentary) were awarded during the ceremony:

Audience Award for Best Short Feature Film: To Guard A Mountain by Izer Aliu (MK/NO 2012)

Audience Award for Best Short Animated Film: The Kiosk by Anete Melece (LV/CH 2013)

Audience Award for Best Short Documentary Film: Survey About Women by Mateusz Głowacki (PL 2013)

The Awards ceremony was followed by the projection of the latest film of the special guest and member of the Jury Katarzyna Klimkiewicz entitled Flying Blind.

The CinEast festival, which presented over 50 feature films and 50 shorts from 15 countries and has attracted over 6000 spectators, runs until Sunday 27 October.
