Czech Republic Selects Home Care as Its Oscar Bid

    PRAGUE: Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA) selected Home Care by Slávek Horák to represent the Czech Republic in the Foreign Language category of the 88th Academy Awards.

    Slavek Horak´s debut feature, a Czech/Slovak coproduction, was selected from a list comprising 39 feature, documentary and animated films.

    Home Care/Domácí péče is a bittersweet story of a dedicated home care nurse who learns one day that she needs help herself. She starts to discover alternative healing and thanks to it she discovers herself. Slávek Horák wrote the script.

    The film was produced by TVORBA films in coproduction with Czech Television, Fog´n´Desire Films from the Czech Republic, Slovakia’s Sokol Kollár and RTVS, and Czech Svoboda@Williams. The project was supported by the State Cinematography Fund, Czech Republic, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and RWE.

    Home Care premiered at the 50th Karlovy Vary IFF, where Alena Mihulová was awarded Best Actress. The cast includes Bolek Polívka, Tatiana Vilhelmová and Zuzana Kronerová. The film was invited to several international film festivals, including Busan, Haifa, Vancouver and Mannheim.
