PRAGUE: The Oscar-winning Czech director Jan Svěrák is in preproduction with Barefoot in a Stubble / Po strništi bos based on the book by his father Zdeněk Svěrák.
Barefoot in a Stubble is one of a series of films created in cooperation between the son and father, and as in several of their previous collaborations, the film focuses on a child hero against the backdrop of historic events. Based on the memories of Zdeněk Svěrák, it tells the story of eight year old Eda, who was relocated from the city to the countryside.
The film will be produced by Biograf Jan Svěrák and the shooting will start this summer. Tereza Voříšková and Ondřej Vetchý have been cast in the lead roles of Eda´s parents. The film will be distributed by Bioscop with the release planned for August 2017. The last Jan Svěrák film distributed by Bioscop, the fairy tale Three Brothers, was the most attended film of 2015. Its total attendance up to date is 701,716.
The film, with the budget of 1.7 m EUR, was recently supported by a State Cinematography Fund grant of 260,000 EUR.
