KARLOVY VARY: Zdenek Holy, the incoming Dean of Prague’s renowned FAMU film school, made his first appearance on the international scene at the Karlovy Vary IFF annual FAMU party.

Holy replaces Pavel Jech, who has just completed the maximum two terms of four years each. Czech and international colleagues have been lavish in their praise of Jech, who expanded the school’s international activities with his accomplished and steady manner, most especially in the establishment of the MIDPOINT script training programme that reaches across the CEE region.

Holy beat out Marek Hovorka, founder and director of the Jihlava doc fest, who had been considered the likely successor to Jech, and Jiri Vlach, a producer at Czech TV, along with two other candidates. Holy has been the editor of the film magazine Cinepur and ran the university press at the Czech arts academy AMU.

Jech, who has accepted a position with Chapman University located in the greater Los Angeles area, will continue working with MIDPOINT.
