By FNE Staff
French family film Asterix at the Olympic Games led the Czech box office for the first five months of 2008, according to results from Czech distributors. The remaing seven slots were filled by Czech films.

Although Czech admissions declined by 18% from the same period in 2007, box offece fell by only 16%, due to a slight increase in ticket prices.

The French success has not been limited to a single film. According to Unifrance's Joel Chapron, French films had some 570,000 admission in 2007, over 4% of the market. French films were out in force at the Karlovy Vary film festival, which runs through July 12. Seventeen French films were selected for screening at the festival, a record number. They include the main competition entries True Enough and the Belgium/France co-production Distant Tremors.
