The film written by Finkiel is an adaptation of the 2006 novel of the same title by Aharon Appelfeld and follows an 11-year boy, Hugo, who is entrusted by his mother to her friend Mariana, a 35-year old prostitute. As the mother is fleeing the ghetto and deportation in 1943 Ukraine and Poland, Hugo’s existence is suspended in a room without windows, where his imagination takes flight.
CinéFrance Studios is producing and French companies Curiosa Films and Celluloid Dreams are also attached to the project, according to Budapest Reporter.
