SKOPJE: Goce Cvetanovski`s hand-drawn animated film John Vardar vs. the Galaxy, which is Macedonia’s first long animated feature project, is currently in preproduction.
The family-friendly “most ridiculous space-opera ever" follows the adventures of a human, John Vardar, who is kidnapped by aliens and ends up with the universe’s most powerful weapon stuck in his head, making his every thought turn into reality.
The development began in 2009, inspired by a series of drawings by the art director Mihajlo Dimitrievski. Allan Castillo and Marko Ugarkovikj are producing through Lynx Animation Studios. The film is expected to be a Macedonian/French/German/Bulgarian coproduction, as the producers are currently in negotiations with coproducers from France, Germany and Bulgaria.
The budget is 2.3m EUR. The project is supported by the Macedonian Film Agency.
The film will go into production in January 2017. The premiere is set for Christmas Day of 2019.
