Film Grain Foundation, the non-profit organisation which is in charge of it, wants a festival "simple and beautiful".
Valletta Film Festival will be supported by the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government and the Malta Arts Fund. It will be a six-day event packed with quality features, short films and documentaries from all over the world, presented in competition and in sidebars.
There will be indoor and outdoor exhibitions in the open-air theatre designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano, the beautiful sixteenth century gardens built by the Knights of St. John, and in a temporary floating cinema at the seashore. Malta has been exhibiting films since January 1897, only 13 months after the first images were screened in Paris. Numerous international productions have been shot in Malta over the last 85 years.
