The International Competition, regarded as the key festival event over the years, has made a name for itself as one of the most daring selections available to the Polish and foreign audiences. These films represent the stated goal of the International New Horizons Competition to a tee: "unconventional premieres, original films, searching for new forms of expression," chosen from hundreds of submissions.

This year's collection will be weighed by jurors affiliated with the International Federation of Film Critics, who will award the prestigious FIPRESCI prize. Competing films include: a hit at the Rotterdam IFF and winner of the Golden Tiger – Iran's Fat Shaker (Larzanandeye charbi) by Mohammad Shirvani, plus The Night from Argentinian director of Polish descent Leonardo Brzezicki, Russia's Celestial Wives of the Meadow Mari by Aleksey Fedorchenko as well as the newest film from Tomasz Wasilewski, Floating Skyscrapers, which won big at the Karlovy Vary IFF this month.
