Polish Oscar Candidate Ida Continues International Rollout

    WARSAW: Pawel Pawlikowski’s recently announced Oscar contender Ida is set for premieres in Slovakia, Hungary, UK, Denmark and Sweden.

    Ida has been one of the biggest commercial successes for a Polish film since the late 80's and 90's when dramas from Krzysztof Kieślowski and Agnieszka Holland were screened in France and the US. Holland's Secret Garden was seen by 7.5 m viewers and Kieślowski's Three Colors: Red sold 850,000 tickets worldwide.

    Ida  was distributed to over 30 countries and made 3.9 m USD in France, 3.6 m USD in the US and Canada and 0.6 m USD in Italy (www.boxofficemojo.pl). The producer informed FNE that on 11 September 2014 it will open in in Slovakia distributed by ASFK and in Hungary by Mozinet. On 26 September the film will open in UK and Ireland distributed by Artificial Eye and Curzon Film World. On 27th November 2014 the film will premiere in Denmark distributed by Camera Film and on 24 October it will open in Sweden distributed by Folkets Bio.

    Ida is a Danish-Polish drama directed by Paweł Pawlikowski and starring Agata Kulesza and Agata Trzebuchowska. It is Danish Polish coproduction from Phoneix Fillm and Opus Film in association with Portobello Pictures (UK). It was supported by the Polish Film Institute.
