Creative Europe's MEDIA moved to DG Connect

By

WARSAW: In a surprise move the European Commission has moved the management for the Creative Europe MEDIA programme to Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect).

The move splits the management of Creative Europe as the Creative Europe Culture programme will remain in the Directorate General for Education and Culture (DG EAC), which will be headed by Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Foreign Affairs and for Trade in Hungary.

The news comes with the announcement of the appointment of German politician Günther Oettinger to head Commission’s DG for Communications Networks, Content and Technology. Oettinger previously was the European Energy Commissioner.

According to German press reports Oettinger had been previously tipped to head the EU US trade talks instead of teh DG post. The talks provoked a successful campaign by European filmmakers' in support of retaining the “Cultural Exception” last year instead of the DG post.
