Record Year for Polish Box Office in 2015

    WARSAW: Poland saw its best year in 2015 with over 44.5 m admissions in cinemas. Maciej Dejczer’s comedy Letters to Santa 2 was the most popular title in 2015 selling 2,874 m tickets.

    According to Polish Filmmakers Association admissions were 44,695,011 (compared to 40,452,557 in 2914) and admissions per capita 1.16. Two films surpassed the 2 m admissions mark and five films sold over 1 m tickets.

    General box office in 2015 was 184.5 m EUR / 822.9 m. PLN. The average ticket price was 3.12 EUR / 18.41 PLN.

    The top spot in the general box office was Letters to Santa 2 directed by Maciej Dejczar and produced by TVN with 2,874,000 admissions. However, US productions dominated Polish cinemas in 2015 with 28.9 m admissions, while  European films had 6.3 m admissions. Domestic films had 8.3 m admissions, a step back from 11 m admissions in 2014.

    According to BoxOffice.pl, Letters to Santa 2 is followed in the domestic attendance top five 2015 by Disco Polo by Maciej Bochniak (Alvernia Studios) with 877,000 admissions, Wkręceni 2 by Piotr Wereniak (MTL Max Film) with 769,711 admissions, Karbala by Krzysztof Łukaszewicz (Karbala) with 408,000 admissions, Chemo by Bartosz Prokopowicz (Filmokracja) with 319,000 admissions.
