FNE at Gdynia Polish Film Festival Competition: My Name Is Ki

    Polish director Leszek Dawid poses questions about love and motherhood in the contemporary drama My Name Is Ki.
    The film will have its premiere during the 36th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia (www.fpff.pl), followed by a theatrical release in September 2011.

    {mosimage}Ki is a young single mother who refuses to feel sorry for herself and puts her life on hold for her child. Despite her reluctance to have serious relationships with men, they help her to realize her responsibilities towards her son.

    The film was shot in Warsaw in April and May of 2010. My Name Is Ki was produced by Skorpion Arte in co-production with Piramida Film (www.piramidafilm.pl), Film Factory (www.filmfactory.com.pl), Hydrafilm (www.hydrafilm.pl) and Studio UFO. The budget of the film was 2.3 million PLN (EUR 580,000) with 1.5 million input from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl). The movie was also co-financed by Canal Plus Polska (www.canalplus.pl).

    {mosimage}Dawid is a graduate of the English Philology College, Wrocław University and the Directing Department of PWSFTViT in Łódź. He previously directed documentaries and short feature films and was an assistant and a second director for feature films, documentaries, and TV productions. A scholarship holder of the Andrzej Munk Screenplay Fund (www.studiomunka.pl) and the Nipkow Foundation (www.nipkow.de) in Berlin. he also works as an assistant lecturer in the Directing Department of the Film School in Łódź (www.filmschool.lodz.pl).

    The cinematographer is Łukasz Gutt, a graduate of the Radio and TV Department of the Silesian University in Katowice (where he studied under Bogdan Dziworski) and the Camerimage Film School, the Film Art and TV Techniques College in Toruń. He cooperates with Andrzej Wajda's film school in Warsaw. His credits include award-winning videoclips, shorts, and documentaries. My Name Is Ki is his feature film debut.

    {mosimage}The lead role of Ki is played by Roma Gąsiorowska, an accomplished young Polish actress most recently praised for her performances in Snow White, Russian Red directed by Xawery Żuławski and Zero by Paweł Borowski. She also appears in two other Gdynia competition films: In The Name of the Devil and Suicide Room. The cast also includes Adam Woronowicz, Krzysztof Ogłoza, and Sylwia Juszczak.

    The producer told FNE that the title will be distributed both locally and internationally.
