BUCHAREST: Cannibal, a Spanish-Romanian -Russian- French coproduction directed by Manuel Martin Cuenca (The Weakness of the Bolshevik), started shooting in Granada, Spain, on 28 January 2013 and will wrap at the end of March.
The central character in the suspense thriller is a tailor who eats women until the day he meets the twin sister of one of his victims.
The film is produced by the Spain’s La Loma Blanca and Mod Producciones in coproduction with the Romanian company Libra Film, Russia’s CTB and the French company Luminor .The budget is 2m EUR, Tudor Giurgiu of Libra Film told FNE.
The project is supported by Eurimages, Spain’s Junta de Andalucía, ICAA, Media and Ibermedia, along with support from TVE, Canal Plus, Canal Sur and AXN. It participated in ACE, the European co-production and development forum París Project, the coproduction meeting Small is “biutiful”, the Cinemart coproduction market and Cannes’ Cinefondation Atelier workshop.
Manuel Martin Cuenca wrote the script jointly with Alejandro Hernandez Diaz. The film stars Antonio de la Torre (Grupo 7, Volver, Balada triste de trompeta), Olimpia Melinte (Sette opere di misericordia) and Alfonsa Rosso (Volver). Pau Esteve Birba is the DoP. The film is due to be finished in winter 2013/2014. Film Factory Entertainment is handling sales.
