Crowd Funding for Romanian Film Festivals

By

BUCHAREST: Three Romanian film festivals are participating in the first crowd funding for cultural events.

Launched on 2 April 2013, the Romanian initiative is seeking funding for eight important cultural events, including NexT International Film Festival, the International Animation Film Festival Animest and the International Children and Teenagers Film Festival Kinodiseea.

The platform We Are Here will be open for three weeks, accepting donations of 5 EUR or more for each festival they choose. Donors’ names will be made public and they will be also able to receive posters printed with their names.

MyKey, the organiser of the crowd funding, hopes that involving the citizens in financing the 2013 editions of the festivals they like they will set a stong precedent. The eight events (film, theater, street culture, jazz, dance and chambre music) are taking place in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timişoara, Iaşi and Alexandria with a general average audience of 500,000 people. This initiative is unusual for Romania where donating, especially for the arts, is not a tradition.
