    BUCHAREST: Cannes prize-winning Romanian director Ionuţ Piţurescu is developing a character driven creative documentary exploring the culture and identity of the Aromanians, a Balkan-based Latin minority people also known as Vlachs.

    Piţurescu won the Prize SRF (La Société des réalisateurs de films) at Quinzaine des Realisateurs, Cannes 2010 with the short documentary Quest/Căutare.

    About Oneself and the Others (Despre sine şi celălalt) will follow two protagonists, striving to explore and save their enigmatic culture and transnational identity known as the "European citizens avant la lettre", through their Southeast European journey unraveling the shifting destiny of Andrei Şaguna, the first Aromanian canonized as a saint.

    The project is a Romanian coproduction between Alexandru Teodorescu through Saga Film and Anthropoesis, with no foreign coproducer attached yet, producer Oana Kelemen from Saga Film told FNE. The budget is supported by a production grant of 79,185 EUR/350,000 RON from the National Center for Cinema announced in April 2013, 10% covered by Saga Film and 10% covered by Anthropoesis. The producers have applied for a MEDIA development grant.

    Shooting dates are not settled but are expected to take place at the end of summer 2014. Principal shooting will last two months, taking place in Albania, Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia and Romania. The premiere is set for 2015.
