Shooting took place 150 km outside Bucharest, in Argeş county. Worthington plays a soldier who deserts from the Union army and meets two Southern sisters played by Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Brit Marling (Another Earth), who are defending their farm from Yankees.

Several Romanian actors play supporting roles. Central Casting Romania  organized extras. Julia Hart wrote the script and Martin Ruhe is DoP. The film was shot entirely in Romania.

The Keeping Room an independent production between US companies Gilbert Films , Wind Dancer Productions  and Anonymous Content. The premiere is set for 2014.
