By

BUCHAREST/BUDAPEST: Viacom Media Networks (http://www.viacom.com/), the largest portfolio of ad-supported cable networks in the United States in terms of audience share, cut a deal with the communication operator RCS&RDS (www.rcs-rds.ro) to launch Comedy Central Extra (www.comedycentral.com) and Nickelodeon (www.nickelodeon.tv) in Romania and Hungary starting October 2013.

Viacom called it a major deal of 2013. "We consider placing our agreement with RCS as one of the great successes of the year," said Bartosz Witak, general manager CEE and Israel at Viacom International Media Networks as quoted by digitaltveurope.net. As a result, the Hungarian audience for Comedy Central Extra will rise by 30% (500,000 additional subscribers) while in Romania Comedy Central Extra will be available for the first time on RCS &RDS for its 3 million subscribers.

Comedy Central Extra was launched in Romania for the first time by Romtelecom (www.romtelecom.ro) in March 2013. Nickelodeon came to Romania in 1998 and one year later it was launched in Hungary. In Hungary the localised channel Comedy Central Hungary (http://www.comedycentral.hu/) started airing in October 2008
