BUCHAREST: Romanian Director/screenwriter Ruxandra Zenide will start shooting her second feature, The Miracle of Tekir/Miracolul din Tekir on 20 October, a Swiss/Romanian coproduction planned for release in spring 2015.

“The general budget might rise to 1.5m EUR, but we have 1.2m EUR already secured”, the film's producer Alexandru Iordăchescu told FNE. OFC Switzerland, RTS (SSR-SRG) Switzerland, Cineforom, Suissimage, Romanian Film Center and Zenith Media Romania are supporting the project.

Set in the Danube Delta, The Miracle of Tekir follows the story of Mara, a young mud healer from a village of fishermen who must flee when she mysteriously falls pregnant. Hired in a spa hotel, she meets a strange  woman who cannot have children.  In the director’s notes, Zenide says the film deals with the “theme of identity in the context of exile”.

Alexandru Iordăchescu is producing with Elefant Films, the production company he and his wife, Ruxandra Zenide, set up in Switzerland in 2004. He is coproducing with their Bucharest-based company Elefant Film. The two main characters are played by Dorotheea Petre, who made her debut on screen with Ryna, Zenide's debut film, and the American actress Elina Löwensohn. The DoP Hélène Louvart will shoot in digital 4K.
