FESTIVALS: The Burning Bush Wins MECEFF 2014

    MEDIAŞ: Agnieszka Holland's The Burning Bush received the Trophy of Mediaş Central European Film Festival (MECEFF) on 6 September 2014. Austria's Your Beauty Is Worth Nothing by Hüseyin Tabak won the Audience Award and the Romanian Luminiţa Gheorghiu received Best acting for Child's Pose by Călin Peter Netzer.

    The Best Cinematography Award went to Ryszard Lenczewski and Lukasz Zal (Ida by Pawel Pawlikowski). TheBest Director Award went to Jonáš Karášek for The Candidate (Slovakia).

    The jury was composed of: Anca Mitran, James Ulmer, Călin Stănculescu, Bernd Desinger and Domenico Giuseppe Mongelli. MECEFF screened from 2 to 6 September more than 40 films and celebrated 25 years from the fall of the communism through films by Andrzej Wajda, Milos Forman and Miklos Jancso. The festival calls itself 7+1 because its competition is opened to the Central European countries (Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia), and each year it has a non-CEE guest (Spain, this year).

    The Burning Bush (produced by HBO Europe and Czech Republic's Nutprodukce Production) was also a fierce competitor for the Audience Award. Your Beauty Is Worth Nothing/Deine Schönheit ist nichts wert by Hüseyin Tabak is produced by DOR Film/Marangoz Film Production and it was supported by Film Fonds Wien, bm:uk, Wien Kultur, Kultur Niederosterreich, Stadt Klosterneuburg.

    Child's Pose is produced by Parada Film and it is supported by the Romanian Film Center. Ida is produced by Opus Film (Poland) and Phonex Film (Danmark), in association with Portobello Pictures (UK), and it was supported by PISF. The Candidate is produced by Azyl Production and supported by Slovak Audiovisual Fund.

    MECEFF is organized by Ecran Cinema Management, the Mediaş Town Hall, Romanian Cultural Institute, Romanian Ministry of Culture, Romanian Film Center, and the Târnave Region, in coproduction with the Romanian Public Television.
