GRANTS: Călin Peter Netzer Gets Biggest Grant from CNC

By

BUCHAREST: The Romanian Film Center allotted 3,401,250 EUR/15 m RON for film production and development at its first session of 2014.

A documentary by Giuseppe Tornatore was among the winners, but a project of Sergey Loznitsa was disqualified. Ana, mon amour, the new feature of Călin Peter Netzer, received the biggest grant, 360,532 EUR/1,590,000 RON and will be produced by Parada Film. The documentary Beyond the Music/Dincolo de muzică by Giuseppe Tornatore, produced by Mandragora Movies received a production grant of 74,827 EUR/330,000 RON.
However, the jury disqualified the project 41FLM on a technicality, because the producer, Cristian Mungiu through Mobra Films, wrote the name of the director Sergey Loznitsa at the end of the Director's Notes while the regulations require secrecy.

CNC approved production funding for eight features, seven debut features, seven short films, eight documentaries and six animated films. Development grants for five projects were also approved. The second session of the 2014 grants contest is underway.

CNC has also a new Council of Administration which finally approved the contracts of the producers who have won last year, so several projects are now moving into production.
